Erratic Batting/Simple Things Present: Azymuth + Dr. Chonk & The Nature Injection

- AZYMUTH -

FFO: Arthur Verocai | Cortex | Santana

Azymuth is a globally renowned, highly influential Brazilian jazz-funk trio founded in the early 1970s.

Their breezy fusion of electric jazz, pop, MPB, samba, tropical disco, and electronic music has influenced three generations of musicians, DJs, and producers. They called their music "samba doido," meaning "crazy samba."

After releasing a string of jazz-disco fusion albums throughout the late 70s/early 80s, Azymuth became one of the world's great jazz bands, whose sound translated to dance club DJs. Their intelligent, high-voltage blend of Brazilian rhythms, jazz, and funk has since been remixed by a who's-who of 21st century DJs and producers including Theo Parrish, 4Hero, Kirk Degiorgio, Ashley Beedle, and Jazzanova.

Azymuth have toured extensively this recent years, with UK dates this year including 3 packed out shows at London’s Jazz Cafe and a headline slot at the ever-eclectic We Out Here festival (curated by Gilles Peterson).

Support from Dr. Chonk & The Nature Injection.

Dr. Chonk & The Nature Injection is an exciting new project formed from members of Snazzback, Cousin Kula, Kudu Blue and Tamasene.
They play with the dusty, raw sounds of 70s psych-jazz to imagine a modern, lo-fi soul, taking cues from Azymuth, Cortex, Mulatu Astatke, and more recent artists like Madvillain and Surprise Chef.
