A gig held at The Mothers Ruin on Friday 15th February. The event starts at 19:30.

theskyisthinaspaperhere

Using live-coded generative and procedural composition techniques, theskyisthinaspaperhere combine ambient electronica with post-rock to create a dark, brooding melancholia.

No pre-rendered backing tracks or visuals here: all performances are generated in real-time using custom made, Kinect-controlled software. Projected visuals allow the audience to see what is being coded alongside a constantly updating vector-based representation of the score.

Retro-hacker imagery blurs the line between technology and the arcane; the interface becomes the aesthetic.

Domestic Sound Cupboard

Domestic Sound Cupboard are a collective of musicians who improvise. We comprise a number of instrumental and vocal musicians, as well as real-time live sound manipulation musicians. We create electro-acoustic improvised music with hints of jazz, drone, noise, ambient, musique concrète, art punk, electronica, etc.

We host a monthly night of experimental and improvised music at The Crofters Rights in Bristol, usually on the last Wednesday of each month - The Sound Cupboard.

We record many of our performances, and they can be listened to here:

Ellen Southern

I am a singer and visual artist based in Bristol UK, working with voice, sound and site.

I use voice as both a compositional tool, and as a direct sound-based method of interacting with site. My ongoing Site Singing work is based on on the idiosyncrasies which arise in this relational process. As well as my ongoing field trips, the project is constantly expanding towards exhibitions, collaborations, and semi-improvised performances which combine live, mediated and pre-recorded elements.

I contribute vocals, voice-based sound works and visual art to Dead Space Chamber Music with Liz Muir (cello) and Tom Bush (guitar).
