Florence & The Bare Souls at Mr Wolfs
See event details

A gig held at Mr Wolfs on Thursday 6th April. The event starts at 21:00.

From sleazy blues, to sultry soul, to good old fashioned rock n' roll, Florence & The Bare Souls are breathing fresh life into classic genres.
They draw influence from the likes of Etta James, Led Zeppelin, Black Keys and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Florence leads the band with a powerful voice reminiscent of the 70's soul greats and throws herself into every song with tangible passion and formidable stage presence. She sings of passion, fear and joy and means every word. Behind her a line up of some of the best musicians Bristol has to offer layer beautiful melodies, solid rhythms and gut-wrenching solos, moving expertly from understated to explosive. A live show not be missed.
REVIEW: THE BRISTOL GIG GUIDE
“Live music is great, but when it’s performed by people as talented as this bunch it ceases to become something you enjoy and becomes something you feel instead. We defy anyone, of any musical genre bias, to watch lead vocalist Florence Pardoe channelling Etta James and not come away gobsmacked that they’ve not come across this band before.
The Bare Souls are a staple of the local music & festival scene, but whilst that familiarity and feeling is great, surely this band is destined for bigger stages. It would be a musical travesty if Florence & The Bare Souls are not packing out large venues up & down the country within the next few years.
In terms of Saturday nights set, the tightly packed & intimate setting of Mr Wolfs only added to the atmosphere the band generates. Whirling through an extensive set of 12 songs, including personal favs “This City”, “Disengage” & “Dopamine” the band had the venue grooving, dancing and singing along. Pushing to the back of the room it was clear that every last position in the venue where someone might grab a view of the stage was taken.
And the rapturous roar that greeted the end of the set was testament to the superb night everyone in attendance had all enjoyed. If you love and appreciate live music,
regardless of your preferred genre, Florence & The Bare Souls are a MUST SEE LIVE part of the Bristol music scene.”
"Imagine if Etta James started a band with Led Zeppelin and brought some funk playing friends with her, and you'll get Florence & The Bare Souls. Some of Bristol's finest musicians bringing an old sound right up to date, in a way that'll have you up and yelling for more. True class.”
