Spike Art Walking Group - Spring at Spike Island
See event details

A event held at Spike Island on Monday 6th April. The event starts at 11:00.

This is the third in what will become a regular (quarterley) walking group aimed at exploring walking as a means of connection, thinking and art making. With a playful and curious approach.

In this first year of the walking group we are simply focusing on building a community - on walking together and sharing - before playing with walking as a form of enquiry and art making once a sense of familiarity and safety have been developed.

Each time we will meet at Spike Island and then venture into the surrounding neighbourhoods. Every walk will have a different theme. The walks will offer an act of collective close looking and reimagining – opening up spaces we don’t usually notice to make visible different ways of being in, and thinking about, the city, space and connection.

The theme for this third walk will be 'spring'. Walkers are invited to bring along anything they have on this that they may wish to share with the group (poem, article, book, song, social media post, letter, snack, dance etc.). I will bring along several texts that I will stop and share along the route, which we can reflect on as we go.

Actively sharing is not demanded nor expected. It might be that your way of sharing is to simply listen. This is very welcome. Walkers are encouraged to participate and share in whatever way they feel comfortable and able. You do not have to stay for the whole length of the walk and can leave and join as suits you.

Meet outside the Spike Island main entrance (or in the foyer if weather is unfriendly). We will walk for approx. 3 hours. You are of course welcome to bring lunch or snacks with you.

Any questions do feel free to get in touch. Please dress accordingly. Dogs and children welcome. If you have questions about parking please contact Spike Island directly.

With warmth,

Cliff
