The revolutionary legacy of Rosa Luxemburg at St Pauls Learning Centre
See event details

A event on Today. The event starts at 19:00.

Rosa Luxemburg's life as a revolutionary is full of insights and inspiration for all those wondering how to respond to our present world disorder of heightened imperialist rivalry and chaos, economic turbulence, and collapse of the political centre in the face of the international growth of the far right.

She was one of the key leaders of the German revolutionary left in the early 20th century. A young, Polish, Jewish woman, she fearlessly took on the theoretical giants of the social democratic party of Germany in defence of revolutionary marxism.

She theorised the role of the mass strike in modern society, and sought to understand the connections between capitalism and the drive to war. She fought tirelessly against the First World War even as those around her collapsed into nationalism and up until she was murdered by right wing militiamen in January 2019 in the midst of the German revolution.

Come along to hear how we can learn from the titanic political battles of this woman of action who understood then that, as also today, the fate of humanity was at stake. Hosted by Bristol Socialist Workers Party.
