held at Strange Brew
on Thursday 24th November. The event starts at 19:00.
A night of Audio Visual performances, bringing visuals to the fore. We'll have Strange Brew laid out with chairs and tables. Perfect for sitting back and focusing on the AV experience.
For this event we’re reaching further afield bringing Minor Science and Wordcolour to the Brew, with local legend Yushh doing their first live set!
Minor Science presents the evolution of his acclaimed Absent Friends ambient mix series. Pitchfork called 2017's Absent Friends Vol. 2, "a snapshot of New Age at its most otherworldly,” naming it one of the year's best mixes. The latest iteration of the project transforms it from studio project into live experience, using improvised performance and deft four-deck mixing to present never-before-heard original material. On the visual side artist Paul Witherden builds a world of nostalgia, nature and connection; fusing found footage with GAN-generated imagery. Old and new, beautiful and ugly, together and apart. All drenched in a layer of saturated psychedelia. With sound and image unique to each performance Absent Friends live shifts and develops each time; you’ll never hear it the same way twice.
In tandem with his new album, Wordcolour presents ‘People can you hear me?’ – a live set which explores the more experimental side of this new LP, as well as the world of some of these early ambient mixes. With visuals by artist Andrea Khora the audience is taken on a trippy journey through a constantly shifting landscape, we encounter a number of voices from movies and youtube videos, each frozen in a moment of vivid personal experience. We witness characters get high, experience alien abduction, as stadium rock-stars, and on the verge of a heart attack – each revealing to us their vulnerabilities and fears as we take a woozy and hallucinogenic trip into the forest.
Capping things off, local legend Yushh is joined by visual artist Aevi. Expect a mix of syncopated, glitched, chugging rhythms with airy haunting melody; journeying through hyperdense, abstract 3D worlds. Although a top-notch DJ, and being well known for her production, this'll be Yushh's first live set! We're real honoured to be putting it on and can't wait to see what the pair bring.
Expect a mix of audio drones, tones, textures, soundscapes and rhythms with visual shapes, spaces and swathes of colour.
