A
gig
held at The Be-Bop Club
on Friday 1st March. The event starts at 20:30.
Saxophonist Dick Hamer has been a central figure in the South Wales jazz scene for thirty years. His style draws on inspiration from the great tenor players, Dexter Gordon, Coltrane, Joe Henderson, with an ear on contemporary players such as Bob Mintzer and many others. His playing experience ranges from jazz, alongside Stan Tracey, Steve Waterman, Alan Barnes, Tal Farlow, John Etheridge, Bobby Shew, Lew Tabackin, to countless theatre orchestras, BBC Wales Big Band and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Dick is joined in the front-line by trumpeter Andy Hague. On piano we have Alex Veitch, who moved to Bristol a few months ago and is appearing at the club for the first time. Alex completed his Masters at London’s Guildhall a few years ago and has played regularly at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and The Vortex. Stalwarts of the Bristol scene Riaan Vosloo - bass and Billy Weir - drums complete the line-up.
