Bristol European Jazz Ensemble at The Be-bop Club
£9.00

A gig held at The Be-Bop Club on Friday 23rd November. The event starts at 20:30.

BEJE is the brainchild of Dave Mowat, a trumpeter blessed with a big warm sound and an adventurous approach to improvisation. There are many musicians from all over Europe living in Bristol, and the band taps in to the wealth of talent and experience they have between them. Dave is himself part Swiss, and has travelled extensively in the Middle East, an influence which can be heard in some of his compositions. On sax is Len Aruliah who grew up in Canada, but if Australia can compete in Eurovision we’re not going to quibble. Len played a great quintet gig at the club under his own name back in March. New arrival on the scene is Spanish pianist Ana Gomez who completed her piano studies in Granada and has performed at many major Spanish festivals. She cites her influences as McCoy Tyner & Bill Evans. The group is completed by Al Swainger - bass, who once went on holiday to France, and a rare appearance at the club from genius maverick drummer Tony Orrell. The band will be playing extracts from their euRIP Suite, which went down a storm at the Bristol Jazz and Blues Festival back in March
