A gig held at The Bristol Fringe on Tuesday 28th April. The event starts at 20:00.
Uphill Game is an acoustic contemporary jazz quartet based in Bristol, UK. It plays open, dynamic, driving, delicate, exploratory, groove- and melody-focused music, inspired by the likes of the William Parker Quartet but with its own distinctive collective voice. Currently one of the UK’s best-kept jazz secrets, the band is delighted to release its first album this spring, recorded live in the sumptuous acoustic of St George’s Bristol.
The band is led by double-bassist & composer Riaan Vosloo. Riaan has played with Nostalgia 77, Tongue Fu, Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum, and many more. Drummer Matt Stockham Brown leads his own project 6161, won a Montreux Jazz Festival talent award in 2019 and has played with the likes of Massive Attack, Rodriguez (Searching For Sugarman), and Cosmo Sheldrake. Tenor saxophonist Jake McMurchie and flugelhornist Pete Judge are the horn section of BBC Jazz Award winners Get The Blessing, and established composers and band-leaders in their own right.
