A
gig
held at The Bristol Fringe
on Tuesday 7th September. The event starts at 19:30.
We are really excited to invite the magnificent jazz talents of pianist George Cooper and Michelson Morley Acoustic to open this new night of monthly double bills at The Bristol Fringe.
We have a limited capacity post- Covid of 30 and are laying out the room in a very cool, homely, in the round setup which will be very welcome for creative music we think!
Two wonderful sets coming up for you on September 7th:
George Cooper will be no stranger to Bristol audiences- known for his work with his superb Jazz Defenders (who have a second album to be released this autumn), The Abstract Orchestra, The Lewis Express and many other renowned artists- George is equally at home in straight ahead jazz, hip/hop crossover projects and pop settings also. A very versatile and talented musician, it will be a treat to hear him in this solo piano format for Fringe In The Round. Expect references to the jazz tradition and repertoire in personal and interesting ways.
Michelson Morley Acoustic is a quartet led by storming tenor player Jake McMurchie that features Dan Messore, Will Harris and Mark Whitlam- this promises to be a scorcher! This is an acoustic version of a project that has two fantastically received albums under it's belt. John Fordham wrote of their second album 'Strange Courage' (Babel): "It’s really imaginative contemporary music, with a hot free-jazz core."
Jake, known also for his work with the brilliant 'Get The Blessing' has long been heralded as a distinctive musician who is able to convey personality and identity in his music from the outset- as has been said about Jake: “If there were a prize for forming bands with instantly distinctive sounds, Bristol-based saxophonist Jake McMurchie would surely carry it off”.
This won't be one to miss! Book early to avoid disappointment. Hope to see you there!
