Part two of four of our seasonal Rohmer retrospective, A Tale of Summer ranks as one of Rohmer's finest works!

Gaspard (Melvil Poupaud), an awkward mathematician, comes alone in the town of Dinard to soak up the sun and wait for his on again, off again girlfriend Lena's arrival. He befriends a charming young woman called Margot (Amanda Langlet, from Pauline on the Beach) and they begin to meet daily. He begins to develop an affection for Margot and also meets another woman called Solène. Suffice to say, he does not handle this situation very well.

Rohmer had made a lot of comedies of male idiocy by this point in his career but this one takes place on a beach. Winning formula! The screwball set up is stretched into something more Gallic and laid back, the beachy vibes aided by typically beautiful location photography. You'll want to go to Dinard yourself after seeing this. Free ice cream on entry (not really).

Doors open 30 minutes before advertised start time. All film screenings are ad-free and 18+ unless otherwise stated, and start with no more than a 10 min selection of trailers.

The Cube is a membership venue, please remember to bring your card. You can join on the door for £1.
