"Babe II: Thunderdome! In 1998, George Miller catapulted everyone’s favourite little porcine protagonist into a deeply family-unfriendly urban nightmare of Tim Burton/Jean-Pierre Jeunet-style dark cityscapes and merciless narrative nihilism. Pig In The City bombed at the box office but still traumatised a whole lot of children in the process. It was worth it."

Christmas Turkeys: Babe II: Pig In The City
Dir: George Miller, 1998, Australia/USA, 96mins, Cert U
Sunday December 28th
Tickets £5
Dismissed as a mere cash-in follow-up to the wildly popular international smash hit Babe (1995), this delightfully dark family romp has more than enough action and laughter to thrill kids of all ages.
Having produced and co-written its predecessor, visionary director George Miller (Mad Max, The Witches of Eastwick, Happy Feet) takes the reins for the sequel, thrusting everyone’s favourite sheep-pig into a fantastical, but unforgiving metropolis.
A box office disaster criticised at the time for being ‘too dark’ for kids, some have argued that this remains Miller’s finest film. A true family classic that is ripe for rediscovery on the big screen.
“Could Pig in the City be the most under-appreciated Australian film in history? I can see the gremlin on the wing right now, and it’s nodding its head.”
Luke Buckmaster, The Guardian
