A gig held at The Cube on Wednesday 22nd July. The event starts at 19:30.
The Cube Microplex presents an evening of improvised music with...
Rah!
Rah! is a Bristol free-improv collective built around shared pulse and repetition rather than fixed songs or melodies. Their sound moves through minimalist, neo-classical, trance rhythm, ambient texture, and slow-burning groove — somewhere between spiritual jazz, kraut energy, and the deep stillness of drone. Expect: hypnotic, raw, and emotive.
The group’s members are active participants in Bristol’s vibrant improvised and experimental scene, performing in projects such as Improv Greatest Hits, Community Jam Collective, Freejazz Gachapon at The Dark Horse, Broken Numbers, Byrfyfyr Free Improv, and others.
Persimmonomenon
Persimmons are the golden, aromatic fruit of a number of species of trees in the genus Diospyros. Persimmonomenon is the occasional improvising project of Steve Watson (Arvy Ethers) on electric guitar and Holly McIntosh (GiantStates) on electric bass guitar, joined tonight by Aidan Searle (Broken Numbers) on drums, forming a trio with all the power of persimmons.

Oliver Brouwer & Luigi Marino
Composer and improviser Oliver Brouwer focuses on moving with the freedom of continuous music, practicing a way of playing and listening with dedicated attention. Luigi Marino’s work explores emergent phenomena involving people, objects, and whatever lies between their shifting definitions. This evening brings the two Bristol-based musicians together in a new collaboration, with Oliver on Japanese bamboo flute the shakuhachi and Luigi on Iranian goblet drum the zarb.
