Tonic 015: Page & Stage at The Director's Cut, Horts Bar
£5 On The Door

A event on Thursday 5th December. The event starts at 19:00.

Tonic's final show of the year is set to be another absolute banger and, yes, we're staying at Horts, Bristol into 2020 too!!
Along with Horts Bar's RIDICULOUSLY COMFY CHAIRS, cinema projector and stylish lighting, we have: a season-special Scratch Showcase celebration, Half-Time Prompt and Q&A, with our Music & Poetry Party headlined by not one, not two but EIGHT utterly sublime writers.
Earlier in the year, we partnered with LYRA - Bristol's Poetry Festival - to link page and stage poets. Afterwards, we asked written and spoken word poets to signup for a series of collaborative pieces. This is the culmination of it all and the perfect way to round off a formative year in Bristol's bustling arts scene.

HEADLINERS
1. STEFAN & MELANIE
Stefan Mohamed is an incredible performance poet and celebrated author of Young Adult fiction as the inaugural winner of the Song Reader Award for YA novel 'Bitter Sixteen'. With genius timing and sabre-sharp wit, Stefan repackages life's difficulties in a comedic way while showing audiences the bigger, looming picture.
Melanie Branton is another jaw-droppingly hilarious performer and a pillar of South West page/stage poetry with her works, 'My Cloth-Eared Heart' (OverstepsPoets) and 'Can You See Where I’m Coming From?' (Burning Eye Books). Melanie's often cerebral comedy combines with more dramatic stances on the past and present world which always offers audiences incredible variety.

2. HELEN & CALLUM
Helen Sheppard is the co-founder of East Bristol's warmest poetry night Satellite of Love Poetry & Spoken Word. Helen is published in 'Tools of the Trade - Poems for New Doctors' (celebrated by The Wall Street Journal and Adam Kay - writer / comedian), 'Our Beating Heart: NHS70' and more, using her life experiences as a midwife and mother along with her warm delivery to strike hope in any room.
Callum Wensley is founder and all-round lovelyman of spoken word night 'Craftwords' at The Crafty Cow. As a recent winner of Milk Poetry's famous Slam and Tonic's inaugural Featured Writer on BBC Radio Bristol's amazing BBC Upload, Callum is the perfect ambassador for Bristol's performance poetry scene. Another veteran of combined emotion, Callum brings raucous laughter and deep thoughtfulness to his well-honed craft.

3. JOSIE & HANNAH
Josie Alford performed at Tonic's first ever show - she's been there from the start! With eye-catching stage presence and brain-catching poetry smarts, Josie is another writer who continues to wow audiences with powerful drama and comedy gold. With an MA in Creative Writing and experience of poetry's events and publishing scenes, Josie combines spoken and written word perfectly.
Hannah Linden is a widely-published poet, featured in the magnificent Magma Poetry, Atrium Poetry and Ink Sweat & Tears among many others. Hannah is a past-winner of the Cheltenham Poetry Festival's Compound Competition and commended in 2015's Prole Laureate Poetry Competition. Her page poetry chops make for astounding reading and we're excited to welcome her to our happy home!

4. CARLY & DAVID
Carly Etherington is an artist and poet who creates with honesty and humour as her two main colours. Wowing Bristol's poetry scene at Raise the Bar's parody night 'Lower The Bar' at Bristol favourite The Crofters Rights, Carly was one half of a side-splittingly funny duo act and we can't wait to see what she does this time!!
David Lewis is a Tonic favourite who has impressed in the Open Mic, Half-Time Scratch and Scratch Showcase sections of previous shows. This time he's back as a headliner and we're psyched to get him on the stage again!!
Having recorded works for BBC Upload via Tonic, David has shown Bristol his unique ability to weave stories with layered meaning, compelling characters and a strong narrative voice. Elements of prose poetry and flash fiction pepper both his spoken and written pieces so he is the ideal performer for this one-off event!
