Katey Brooks at Bristol Folk House
See event details

A gig held at Bristol Folk House on Friday 15th December. The event starts at 20:00.

She will be showcasing some of the most popular songs from this year's ‘Song A Day’ project as well as some old favourites. This year’s project has seen her invite people on social media to share their stories & Brooks writes a song for them. This has garnered a flurry of media interest including BBC television news and radio. With a fresh batch of acoustic Christmas covers released, KB will also be treating attendees to some festive tunes with her own folksy spin, to get us all in the spirit!

To watch her sing live is to witness emotional exorcism, but when you know her backstory, it’s hardly a mystery why. Growing up inside a cult, as a child Katey found refuge in song. Later, she travelled the world with her guitar on her back, writing everywhere from the Occupied West Bank to an abandoned Finnish island. Over a career spanning four continents, Brooks has journeyed from intimate living rooms to opulent concert halls, from dive bars to decorated studios with some of music’s biggest names, boasting famous admirers like Joss Stone.

She has recorded with Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones and Paloma Faith at Abbey Road for BBC Radio 2’s Children in Need single. She has shared bills with a host of big names including Newton Faulkner, Ghostpoet, Martin Simpson, Deaf Havana, Lou Rhodes (Lamb), Mike and the Mechanics, and Mystery Jets. She has played some of the world’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury, WOMAD, the 2012 Paralympics, the Cambridge Folk Festival and Australia’s National Folk Festival.

Brooks’ music has been supported by BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, 6music, Canada’s CBC, Jazz FM, Amazing Radio. Her music has been featured in the West End and film, which has earned her three Best Original Song awards at film festivals. Her voice features on the soundtrack for Hulu’s ‘Harlots’.

This year has been epic with the KB’s song ‘All Of Me’ making the finals in the International Songwriting Competition, whose judges include Mariah Carey, Coldplay & Tom Waits. With songwriting and production firmly in her focus at the moment, expect A LOT of new material in the coming months!

“A once-a-generation talent” Henry Yates (NME, Guardian)
“One of the best albums of the year” Pop Dust
“Had the crowd eating out of her hands” The Independent
“Love this lady’s voice…she really means what she’s singing” Joss Stone
