Suntou Susso - The Future is Ancestral solo tour at Bristol Folk House

A gig held at Bristol Folk House on Saturday 16th May. The event starts at 20:00.

An Intimate Evening with the Kora

Step into an unforgettable evening with Suntou Susso, a captivating singer, performer and master of the kora - the 22-string West African harp whose sounds have enchanted listeners and carried the soul of Mandinka culture for over seven centuries. Born into a revered lineage of Gambian Griots: historians, storytellers and peacekeepers, Suntou is both a guardian of the tradition and a bold innovator of its future. Rooted in the ancient rhythms and spiritual depth of his heritage, Suntou's music is a bridge between worlds.
Following three years of constant touring and creative exploration since the release of his debut album, Suntou has now released his highly anticipated second album, Jaliya Silokang - The Path of a Griot. Audiences can expect original compositions and reimagined traditional pieces, reflecting his evolved and elevated sound, grounded in ancestral wisdom yet alive with contemporary expression.
Touring songs from the latest album, these solo shows are more than performances; they are journeys into heritage, unity, belonging, ecology, and the dreams of ancestors and generations yet to come. His performances radiate humanity and virtuosic artistry.

“He was the master of a magical evening—one of those rare ones that make people remember their better selves.”
— Mayfest in the Woods
“This is a most ambitious and sprawling album that uses its many threads brilliantly and evocatively and will do much to cement Suntou Susso’s reputation as a burgeoning star and virtuoso of the Griot form and the kora"
— Monolith Cocktail
