Ear Trumpet Presents: The Furrow Collective + Heartwood Chorus

The Furrow Collective consists of Lucy Farrell, Emily Portman and Alasdair Roberts, united by a shared love of traditional song and balladry from England, Scotland and beyond. With an open, intuitive approach to collaboration, the trio shares timeless songs of this world and others, with storytelling at their heart.

Following four critically acclaimed albums as a quartet (with fellow founder-member Rachel Newton), the Furrow Collective is now developing new material as a trio: folk songs and ballads of love and loss, uncanny encounters and wild and wayward journeys. 

The Furrow Collective stage show is further enlivened by the appearance of a 'crankie theatre' designed by Lucy (who is a talented visual artist as well as a musician). The crankie is turned by hand to unfold enchanting pictorial stories on a moving scroll, in parallel with the captivating music. The group is well-loved for its contemporary interpretations of traditional material, and forthcoming concerts will focus on what Lucy, Emily and Alasdair do best: breathing new life into old ballads, in song, story and art.

Heartwood Chorus are a folk choir from Bristol. They sing original, spellbinding arrangements of traditional folk songs, as well as interpretations of future classics from the thriving folk scene.

What began as a community project has evolved into a quality folk act in its own right. This is not a choir that sings folk music… this is a bonafide folk choir, and one that's been called the “finest in the UK”.
