A
gig
held at The Gallimaufry
on Tuesday 19th September. The event starts at 21:00.
Beth Roberts is a songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Bristol. After a summer of gigs with Hands of the Heron, Tryani Collective and House of Figs, she’s excited to bring a brand new band to the Galli to share an in-progress development of her solo songwriting project.
Beth’s voice carries elements of folksong honesty and choral clarity as she weaves melodic lines over intricate fingerpicked banjo and guitar, with jazz-infused grooves provided by Katie Moberley (cello), Danny Tryani (keys), Alex Heane (double bass), Conor O'Brien (drums) and Rowan Elliott (viola).
They’ll be playing a collection of new songs born from the quiet place that comes after despair, expressing a bruised acceptance of uncertainty following the deconstruction of childhood beliefs. There’s a hypnotic intimacy in her performance that invites audiences to commune with the tender parts of themselves, drawn in by her ever-shifting harmonic patterns and gently questioning lyrics.
As a solo performer, she has supported a broad spectrum of artists including Rachel Sermanni, The Magic Lantern, Martha Tilston, Solana and Haiku Salut. She also runs Cuculi Records, a DIY community label with a growing reputation for promoting grassroots music in Bristol.
Merging six vocalist-instrumentalists from diverse backgrounds, Bristol based Tryani Collective’s original compositions interweave multi-part vocal arrangements with explosive percussion, synthesisers and drums. They will be presenting and showcasing some of their favourite artists in this series at The Gallimaufry.
