Kathak and Bharatnatyam - classical Indian Dance Taster Class

Kathak and Bharatnatyam - classical Indian Dance Taster Class at The Island

An event held at The Island on Saturday 17th October. The event starts at 15:30.

In this taster session, we invite you into the expressive worlds of Kathak and Bharatnatyam, two traditions that need no prior experience to enjoy.

Kathak is the storyteller's art, full of graceful spins and intricate footwork that rings with ankle bells, while Bharatnatyam is grounded and geometric, a fiery dialogue between sharp stamps and sculptural poses. One flows like water, the other blazes like fire, yet both are simply conversations between rhythm and emotion.

Whether you are a dancer, singer, or curious admirer, come barefoot, move freely, and discover the joy of stepping into these ancient rhythms for yourself.

Free class, book in advance to secure a space. This event is part of The Island Open Studios 2026

The Island Dance Studio, First Floor, Bridewell Street, Bristol. BS1 2QD.

The Dance Studio is located on the first floor of the building. Access is limited by two flights of stairs, please see artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Dance-Studio-The-Island-Accessibility.pdf for our full accessibility document.
