MONKISH + Social Security + The Lone Sharks at The Thunderbolt

A gig held at The Thunderbolt on Saturday 12th September. The event starts at 20:00.

MONKISH
It all began in London in 2005, Monkish have steadily increased their fanbase by playing regularly, and picking up support slots with the likes of Bad Manners, The Vibrators, The Macc Lads, Johnny Moped, Anti-Nowhere League, The Members, Jilted John, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Neville Staple and Janus Stark.

Monkish have played at the Blackpool Rebellion Festivals no less than 9 times between 2007 and the present,  They have also played at Rebellion Festivals in Austria, Italy, and Holland and have arranged their own tours in the USA, Germany (3 times), and Belgium (3 times).  Also travelling to Ireland to play the Drumacanoo Punx Picnic in 2009 where they appeared alongside Sleaford Mods.

Other major festival appearances have included the Wickerman Festival in Scotland and the Great British Alternative Music Festival at Butlins in Skegness 2017, and Minehead 2020 as well as The Great Skinhead Reunion "the world Mecca for Skinheads" at Brighton in 2022.

Monkish released their debut album in 2011 “You Can’t Polish a Turd” which was very well received, and received a higher score than the Red Hot Chilli Peppers new album in Big Cheese Magazine. The song “Please Don’t Piss In My Microwave” was voted Best Punk Song of 2011 on Gary Bushell’s Rancid Sounds show on Total Rock FM.

The second album "Quorn is Murder" was released in June 2018 was produced by Dick Crippen of Tenpole Tudor/King Kurt fame.

Despite the kick in the balls that COVID-19 gave us all, 2021 saw the band following a slight "cabinet reshuffle" raring to go and back to the chaos and mayhemic stage madness across the UK and with some new material alongside the old classics and crowd pleasers.

SOCIAL SECURITY
SOCIAL SECURITY After seeing The Damned perform in late 76, Social Security left their jobs and signed on. They recruited 'Spy' a Damned roadie so named because the Damned were convinced he was a spy for the Pistols. With 'Spy' on board as their new singer, The Socials became major players in the Bristol and West Country's burgeoning punk scene. Signed by Heartbeat Records They went on to record their first single on Bristol's newly formed Heartbeat record label. The single, a four track E.P. Was critically acclaimed by the legendary John Peel. Over the years the single has been re-released appearing on many highly regarded Punk anthology albums. After a lot of arm twisting by their former management and due to public pressure Social Security relented and have now reformed playing extensively and showcasing their unique wit and song writing abilities. Social Security are true originals, Don't miss them!!
