Ladies, ladies, ladies. Sisters, mothers, daughters, enemies, colleagues, lost loves, life partners, girlfriends, bullies, maidens, witches, crones, heroes. Ladies take many different roles in our lives. In celebration of Laurie Bolger joining us to launch her new collection, LADY, we’re doing a special Lady-focused Milk Poetry, also featuring music from femme witchy folk trio, The Dorothy Sisters.
Laurie Bolger
Laurie Bolger is a London-based writer and founder of The Creative Writing Breakfast Club. Her work has featured at Glastonbury, TATE, RA and Sky Arts. Laurie’s was shortlisted for The Bridport and Sylvia Plath Prizes her poem ‘Parkland Walk’ won The Moth Poetry Prize. Laurie’s publications include Box Rooms, Makeover, Spin and her debut collection, LADY, exploring girlhood and celebrating her working class Irish heritage.

The Dorothy Sisters
The Dorothy Sisters are the new Bristol based trio creating witchy folk for witchy folk. With haunting three part harmonies they mix modern indie folk with traditional folklore elements of rounds and chanting. The band, named after ancestors lost before their time, are inherently spiritual in nature. For fans of The Staves, Laura Marling and Agnes Obel.
This month, we’re taking a break from the slam to host a themed open mic. Open to all genders and styles, we only ask that your poems and songs are inspired somehow by the prompt “Lady”. Keep an eye on our socials to find out how to get involved.
