Stick in The Wheel at The Wardrobe Theatre

A gig held at The Wardrobe Theatre on Sunday 17th November. The event starts at 20:00.

East London's Stick In The Wheel are headed by singer Nicola Kearey, and guitarist/producer Ian Carter. Known for their fierce, raw delivery, this is culturally and politically switched-on music, with the group widely commended for their timely appraisal of English Folk. Their skill in telling stories through song reconnect modern audiences to the past, drawing unexpected parallels between then and now. Second album 'Follow Them True' (Jan 2018), led UNCUT to proclaim them “Britain’s most exciting new folk band” - expanding the radical sound of their debut to include electronic and found sounds, yet at the same time remaining totally connected with the tradition. Their recent mixtape 'This and the Memory of This' chronicled studio sketches and chance meetings with other artists, following their BBC 6 Music Freakzone mixtape.
Their debut “From Here” (2015) was fRoots magazine Album of the Year and a MOJO Folk Album of the Year, with four BBC Folk Award nominations.

"Powerful—and deeply relatable…remarkably blending the contemporary and the historical" Pitchfork
