A clubnight held at To The Moon on Friday 15th March. The event starts at 20:00.
Counting Blessings is a free night of music for dancers, centred on House and Broken Beat and moving out through Jazz, Funk, Disco, Boogie, Latin & Afro.
Kicking off the Counting Blessings party is a dance workshop focusing on the Foundations of the House Dance style. The dance class is £6: we sold out on dance class places last time, so be sure to grab your ticket in plenty of time. NB: If you are NOT coming to the dance class, To The Moon bar will be open as usual whilst it is on so come down any time! Its free entry to the party all night - everyone welcome.
The class is delivered by Bristol's own Issie Lloyd, to a live DJ set by Katie Novo.
Issie Lloyd has worked as a professional dance practitioner specialising in street dance styles for 20 years, training in and delivering dance in the UK, Brazil, Ethiopia, West Coast USA and Europe.
Issie is co-founder of Funk Supreme, a community dance company delivering classes, social events and performances in the South West and Wales, covering styles including House, Dancehall, Hip Hop and Afrobeats. She brings a wealth of experience running interactive events that create connection through music and dance - it feels pretty special to have her.
What Is House Dance?
House dance emerged from the underground clubs of Chicago & New York in the 70s and 80s developing organically over time into the thriving scene found in cities including London, New York, Barcelona & Tokyo today.
With a focus on improvisation & a feeling of freedom in the music built upon a foundation of intricate footwork and full-body rhythmic movements, many of the 'steps' on which it is based naturally incorporate into dancing anytime, anywhere, to any music.
The class is the first part of the bi-monthly Counting Blessings party, which is free entry all night. DJs this month are Rafi & Katie Novo, bringing a selection of House, Afro, Broken Beat, Jazz & Latin, selecting always for the dancers.
