This month’s Counting Blessings party at To The Moon is a Jazz Dance special!
We’ll kick off at 730 with a dance workshop run by Bristol dancer Sky. Suitable for all levels including beginners, this will be an introduction to House Dance and Jazz Footwork, looking at how the steps from these dances can be combined and incorporated into your usual dancing repertoire, all to sweet sounds provided by Jazz & Latin aficionado DJ Polenta.
From 830 to 12 we have DJ Polenta & your Counting Blessings host Katie Novo mixing up UK Jazz Dance and Jazz Fusion classics alongside choice cuts of House, Broken Beat, Funk & Afro-Latin goodness.
Sky started her dance journey young with the classic technique of ballet and contemporary dance. Later she fell in love with jazz music and Lindy hop, and is now digging deeper into the vernacular of solo jazz dancing, in addition to learning tap, be-bop, UK jazz and street style dancing such as house and hip hop.
In this dance class, she is excited to share some house and solo jazz steps and encourage self expression and improvisation.
DJ Polenta has a long history organising and playing at nights across the breadth of the UK’s underground music scene, from bringing early dubstep to Brighton to pop-up roller-raves. He has a huge love & deep knowledge of all things jazz-related, and is a keen dancer aswell as DJ. Can’t wait to see what’s in his Counting Blessings bag!
Katie Novo is a DJ, music lover and long time collector of all things Brazilian, House, Jazz, Broken Beat, Garage, Disco Funk and more. She started Counting Blessings as a place for anyone and everyone to have a really good dance in a friendly, welcoming, accepting space.
