A
gig
held at Friendly Records
on Sunday 12th December. The event starts at 17:00.
Roll up for Friendly Records's inaugural Winter guitar jamboree. Join us as the light fades on a late Sunday afternoon into a warm evening of explorative, instrumental guitar playing.
We're really excited to welcome back C Joynes as he adventures into the South West to celebrate the release of his wonderful new record Poor Boy on The Wire. An immersive, wandering study of the electric guitar; Joynes draws on overdriven garage blues, West African fuzzed guitar lines, courtly minuets, North African intensity & Eastern exoticism, all rooted in an experimental, English Folk tradition. Following 2019's brilliant 'The Borametz Tree' C Joynes continues in rich creative form.
'the compositional mind at work here can take apparently disparate threads of modernism and ethnic tradition and treat them as though they were all archaic blues styles learnt from dusty 78s'
BRUCE RUSSELL, THE WIRE
One of Bristol's finest & original guitar players Paul Bradley is joined by his friend Glenn Kimpton for a new project of improvised steel strung guitar interplay.Paul is most frequently enjoyed as one third of Three Cane Whale so it's a real treat to have Paul & Glenn join us after previous intimate sets at El Rincon in the Summer. Paul's guitar playing is ever moving, weaving improvised patterns through folk and jazz idioms. Deeply thoughtful whether exploring cascading electric guitar delay or the intricate dance of his acoustic guitar. As a writer and close listener, Glenn's playing is studied; steady & searching guitar lines with repeating finger-picked chords create an evocative & reflective landscape.
As it's a Winter jamboree we'll have records playing from 5pm, carol singing, mulled wine with Winter cards hand printed on site from our dear friends Ellen & Nick of The Letterpress Collective.
Come and join us as we usher in the early notes of Winter.
Open from 5pm.
Guitar performances from 7:30pm.
