What are the challenges of being in a mixed-race relationship and starting a family?
How you do manage the stark reality of racism within your own family?
What are your responsibilities as a small business owner to make real change?
In this talk Naomi and Natalie will share their experiences of growing up mixed race in Britain, how they process, understand and learn about their identity and use their privilege to advocate for change, as well as addressing the privileges and complexities of being mixed race in Britain today. They will also discuss their journey of running one of the largest anti-racism platforms on social media in the UK and some practical tips on how you can do more on your anti-racist journey.
You will be able to purchase their new book: The Mixed Race Experience on the night.

Everyday Racism
Naomi and Natalie Evans are writers, educators and speakers based in the UK. They run an educational Instagram account called Everyday Racism. Everyday Racism is an organisation that seeks to educate and provide resources on being actively anti-racist. It started as an online platform after a video of Natalie Evans confronting two men racially abusing a ticket inspector went viral on Twitter, and when Natalie and Naomi decided to set up the platform it was with the intention of sharing stories from Black and Brown people to highlight their everyday experiences of racism in the UK. This quickly evolved into creating educational posts about language and anti-racist terminology, and as the platform grew and posts were more widely shared, we decided to start designing our own educational resources and artwork all based around how to be actively anti-racist.
The organisation now runs a series of workshops, a book club focusing on work by Black and Brown authors, training courses and provides resources including templates for MP and discrimination complaint letters.
Naomi and Natalie have just finished writing their first non-fiction book “The Mixed-Race Experience” which is published by Penguin and out in July 2022.
