When will the AI bubble burst? at St Pauls Learning Centre
See event details

A event on Today. The event starts at 19:00.

We live in a world where a handful of bosses own and control vast swathes of the planet's wealth. The capitalist system however is built on fundamental contradictions which no boss or corporation can avoid. The system is driven by competition and the accumulation of capital.

Capitalism has a history of periodic crises throwing hundreds of millions of people into poverty and increasing the drive to war. Today we see increasing concerns about the AI industry and the scale of the gap between investment and profits. So for example this year alone, four tech companies—Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Microsoft— have plans to invest $670 billion on AI infrastructure.

Unless AI revenues grow by orders of magnitude soon, there’s a Grand Canyon-sized gap that will be hard to cross.

All welcome to hear and discuss a Marxist analysis of the AI bubble and the consequences when it bursts!

Speaker: James Cussens, Senior Lecturer in AI, University of Bristol.
