Our Saturday community hub and day-long cultural programme features listening sessions, instrument demonstrations, film screenings and talks. Come along to one of the scheduled events in the auditorium, or simply browse the stalls, eat a taco, and make friends! More info below:

Paul Purgas presents Subcontinental Synthesis listening session and discourse
Paul Purgas (emptyset) presents new research on radical sound and media practices native to South Asia, including listening session and discourse.

13:50-15:00
Mohamed Chourcair & Steve Goodman present UAI instrument, discussions & performance
Lebanese sound artist Mohamed Choucair showcasing the music of the UAI – an instrument he made by transforming the incessant buzz of the Israeli UAV. The demonstration will give way to a discussion between Mohamed and Steve Goodman (Kode 9) on the ways in which sound can equate to a weapon, followed by an an audio-visual presentation.

Preemptive Listening screening & Q&A w/ director Aura Satz
‘Preemptive Listening’ is a work of non-fiction cinema which re-imagines sirens in order to forge a new understanding of present and long term emergency. Through a soundtrack of new siren sounds composed by an array of experimental musicians, the film asks questions such as: Does an alarm have to be alarming? The screening of Preemptive Listening will be followed by a Q&A with director Aura Satz.

Stalls: Velocity Press, Idle Hands + 3 artisan craft stalls in collaboration with Bristol Refugee Festival & ACH.

This event is part of En Masse’s 2025 Community and Arts Programme. This free-to-attend programme aims to enhance access to creative opportunities in Bristol, empower a diverse range of individuals to pursue creative careers, and nurture Bristol’s independent arts ecosystem by making it more connected and resilient.
