Stitching Resilience - Clothes upcycling at Bristol Folk House
£26 standard / £20 concession

A event held at Bristol Folk House on Friday 19th December. The event starts at 13:30.

Give your clothes a second life!
Got some tops with some stains? Any jeans too ripped to wear anymore? Or maybe a long dress and a denim skirt? Wondering where mixing your items could get you? Far away in the designer life, my darling!

I invite you to take a break and create something unique, that represents you fully! Dare to dream, dare to make it visible, and wear it with joy and pride!

We are gathering not only to stitch, but to co-create a safe space for expression, for sharing our presence and thoughts; a place where we can play and fight against fast fashion, the second biggest polluter in the world!

This session is addressed to those who have a minimum of experience with needles or at least general crafts. Please bring at least 2 clothing items with you that you are emotionally ready to chop.

As part of this journey, honouring the community we are part of and the sacredness of co-creation, you are invited to bring an item you wish to offer as a gift or to exchange with another participant. Please try to bring something practical and in good condition, pre-loved items are encouraged.

The workshop includes a short meditation, the craft session of 2 hours, and a gentle networking circle. Everyone is welcome, especially the diaspora community.

Proposed timetable:
1:15- 1:30 pm- Arrival
1:30- 1:35 pm- Short meditation and grounding
1:35- 3:35- Craft session with breaks as needed
3:35- 3:50- Exchanging gifts and contacts (only if you wish)

Please do your best to arrive on time, the more time we have, the better. Tickets are non-refundable, only transferable to a friend. If you are experiencing financial struggles, contact me at [email protected] . Includes all materials (needles, threads, scissors, extra scraps, buttons) & creative guidance. 10% of profit is donated to I HEART AFRICA charity supporting children in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Please be aware that you might not be able to finish the piece in this session, depending on how big your project is. I kindly advise you to research on pinterest or other platforms for ideas to save you some time.

Peace and love,
Shika
