A
gig
held at The Golden Lion
on Saturday 21st September. The event starts at 21:00.
The Pilchards are very excited to announce we’ll be returning to the fabulous Golden Lion in Bristol with our good friends Flying Ant Day.
The Smokin’ Pilchards are an alternative folk-stomping shanty machine based across the Midlands and Cornwall. The Pilchards play sea-shanty inspired folk tunes.
“I love it ... it encapsulates all the greatness of folk and acoustic, also with a real rock and blues element to it" - Alex, BBC Introducing WM
“(Sounds like) early Adam and the Ants were pirates headbutting members of 80s Madness and Dexy's! ” - Nick Townsend, Ryan's Gig Guide, Aug 2018
Andy Miles writes of Flying Ant Day's album, Lemmings;
..."I can't recommend it enough. If you've ever seen the band live (and if not, why not?!?) you'll know what to expect - a fiery blend of superbly played melodic beat, garage rock, & punk topped with frontman Bodmin Moor's fantastic literate lyrics. There's a lovely touch of variety on show here too, with the uncluttered effective guitar/bass/drums arrangements molded into ventures into glam (Skinny Jean) and country balladry (Tired of Living).
Album closer (and title track) Lemmings lays it all on the line, "I'm starting all over again, I'm pushing 50 but I made sure this time I got the right people with me". On this evidence Bodmin, yes you bloomin' well do...."
