See event details

A gig on Sunday 16th November. The event starts at 17:00.

November at The Green Man brings you tales of love, hope, betrayal and growth in the shape of Andy Maggs & Josie Blakelock.

Andy Maggs;
Andy Maggs is an experienced bass player who learned his craft playing in the Bristol funk scene in the early 90's before joining popular Bristol combo K-Passa. A chance meeting with former Robert Plant guitarist Innes Sibun lead to many years of touring in UK, Europe and USA, followed by stints in JEBO and Littlemen, as well as Dep gigs with touring artists such as Keegan McInroe (USA) and David Celia (Canada).

Having become aware that he had missed out on some big tours, due to not doing backing vocals, Andy employed the services of legendary vocal coach Ruth Royall, who convinced him that a singing career was not beyond his abilities. During the pandemic Andy began writing his own material and honing his voice, leading to the recording of his initial release ' Concrete and Steel.

Andy continues to play bass with Indy Americana band Courting Ghosts.

Josie Blakelock;
Josie Blakelock is a singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Bristol. Since releasing her
debut album The Conqueror, she has gained recognition by BBC Introducing and
performed at various venues across the South West including the Louisiana, the Fleece,
and more. Inspired by her love of gothic novels such as Wuthering Heights and the folk
music tradition, Blakelock’s songs unravel like short novels that capture the magic of
storytelling through song. Melodramatic and cinematic, her music evokes the full
spectrum of human emotion, taking inspiration from artists such as Nick Cave, Lana Del
Rey, and Kate Bush. With haunting tracks that explore themes such as mortality,
heartbreak, rage and revenge, Blakelock’s shows promise to provide a uniquely
emotional listening experience.

“Cinematic sound” – BBC Introducing
“Shimmering debut . . . mesmerising vocals” – Mystic Sons

As always our host Max Harrison will play a short set before passing the stage onto our two fabulous feature artists!
