A event held at The Tobacco Factory on Saturday 17th November. The event starts at 10:00.

There's no denying the urgent need to address our current economic, environmental and social crises. We can't rely on the media to honestly educate us on how best to solve these issues, we need to take matters into our own hands - this workshop does exactly that.

“Big picture activism” is a strategy that reveals the interconnections among our many environmental, social, and economic crises and pinpoints a strategic path towards solving them.

By adopting bird's-eye view perspective to identify and address the root causes of the crises we face, we are able to move beyond the constant treating of symptoms, towards effective activism for a new economy that work for people and planet.

This includes rethinking common notions of progress, while simultaneously sharing about the wealth of inspiring initiatives that are moving communities in a healthier direction, in the city and the country and in the global North and South.

We cannot rely on the mainstream media to report on these issues, nor can we expect change from a top wedded to status quo. This is where Big Picture Activism comes in. To build a movement powerful enough to turn the tide, we need to change the I to a WE and to become pro-active in educating others about the global economy and its alternatives. This workshop looks at how we can adopt a big picture approach to become more effective activists for systemic change. Participants will explore how to creatively integrate an element of ‘big picture’ activism into their present work or activities.

The workshop follows on from our recent Economics of Happiness conference in Bristol in October. It is helpful to have attended the conference, but not a prerequisite to join the workshop.

What we will be exploring:

- Key big picture issues and policy mechanisms for systemic change

- Inspiring and transformative national and international localisation initiatives in action

- Social movements for systemic change to look out for/link up to

- Big Picture Education-for-action strategies

- Linking specific issues to a big picture analysis

- Targeting different groups with a big picture message

- How we can adopt a big picture approach
