DIASPORA! is a new arts festival for Bristol and the South West, presented by the Diverse Artists Network. Taking place this year for the very first time, 3-6 May 2024, this four-day, multi-venue event will platform and celebrate the wide variety of talent reflected in the region’s marginalised diasporas.
- Maria Galvache & David Nash -
Duo of guitar and voice playing classic Spanish popular songs with an energetic dose of Latin, rumba and flamenco mixed with celtic folk from Galicia. Their repertoire ranges from classics to contemporary, from soft melodies to epic ballads. The combination of David flamenco guitar flourishes and Maria's powerful and passionate vocals creates a stripped back but intense experience of these popular songs. You'll dance, you'll weep, you'll go home clapping these intoxicating rhythms.
Maria Galvache is a self-taught singer who began performing at the age of 16, while based in Madrid, and has toured around Spain for many years. Her vocal talents range from the traditional sound of Spanish folk songs, the arabesque inflections and improvisations of flamenco to the smooth power of a pop ballad. She has performed with Spanish rock, pop and alternative bands such as "Zerua", "Electroshock" and "Sixter". Now very much settled in Bristol she brings together her passion for the popular music of her homeland in this new project.
Dave has been playing Flamenco Guitar for 25 years having originally studied Classical Guitar at school. He plays every week in Los Gatos tapas bar in Swindon and has many years experience of playing in restaurants and for weddings and parties. He performs with Flamenco dancers at a wide range of venues and has a comprehensive understanding of Flamenco having studied with several maestros both in Spain and the Uk.
The duo have been already in venues like "The Tobacco Factory", "El Rincón","The Canteen", "The Ropewalk", "The Golden Lion" and many more from Bristol and Somerset area
